Orange Monkey Bread

I have to just start off by saying, this is going to be your favorite new treat to make.  It is mine.  Having a sweet treat around the house is one thing that keeps my family going each and every week.  The fun with this recipe is that you can create any flavor combo you like.  Today I made mine with the citrus-filled orange.  YUM.

Citrus to me, just makes food come alive.  It's a bright, sweet flavor to add to almost any meal.  That hint of sweetness in the background, just hiding out and ready to explode.  These oranges were born for my Monkey Bread today.

Let's get this bread started!

Another bonus to this recipe: not a lot of ingredients needed.

  • 1 large orange, using the zest and juice
  • 1 can of refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 stick of butter
Preheat your oven to 350.  Pick your bread baking vessel  You can use a bundt pan, loaf pan, (like I did today), or even a muffin pan - if you use this, just put pieces in each muffin cup.  Spray liberally with non-stick spray.

Begin by grabbing a large Ziplock bag and pouring in your sugar.  Cut each biscuit into quarters.

Now lets add our first layer of orange!  Zest the entire large orange into your Ziplock bag full of sugar.  Your entire kitchen will start to carry the sweet zestiness of citrus and orange-heaven.

Add your biscuit quarters into the bag and make sure to seal it up tight.  These babies are going for a nice, fun ride!

Shake, shake SHAKE!  Toss the bag until every single piece of biscuit is covered with citrus coated sugar.  Can you picture the love yet?

Melt your stick of butter and then squeeze every drop of juice from your orange into the butter.  Stir together.  Magic happens.

Add in your sugary coated pieces of love into your baking pan.

Pour your butter and juice mixture over the top and just let it seep into every single crevice.

Bake for 25 minutes at 350.  For using a loaf pan like I have, I baked for 25 minutes at 350, then covered with aluminum foil and cooked for an additional 10 minutes.  This allowed the bread in the middle to cook all the way through since I used such a deep pan.

I sprinkled a nice tablespoon of sugar right over the top, (who doesn't like some extra sweetness?), and then allowed to cool for 10 minutes on the counter.

Take a platter and place on top of your baking pan.  Flip your pan over and you'll find perfection.  Glazed in sugary, orange goodness.

Serve up and let everyone dig in.  You can pull it apart or be like me and dig in with a fork.

I can't say enough how delicious this Orange Monkey Bread is.  The sweetness is right on point; not overly sweet and mixes just perfectly with the citrus from the orange.  The sauce from baking creates the exact amount of glaze without having to add anything extra.  Pure love right here, everyone.

Cheers!
