Infused Citrus Water | "Detox Drink"

So lately I am on a mission.  A mission to get myself ready for summer.  That's right ... the pool, the sun, the friends/family and the pure relaxation of it all.  That also means ready to enjoy myself and feel GOOD about myself.

So this week I'm sharing my super simple things you can do to get yourself ready for summer as well.

Some call it a Detox Drink - I like to think of it just a little more simple: infused water.  Now - this little combo of infused water is meant to try and boost your metabolism.  The goal is to drink this throughout the day and of course cut your sugars, (pop/soda, energy drinks, etc) in order to really give your body a good flush.

I'm a citrus gal so this is actually something really easy for me to do - because I already love what I'm infusing my water with.  And - it's SO easy.  Seriously ... have you ever made a sangria?  Think of it as the same, only don't add wine - add water.  ;)

So let's get to the point on this - what do we need?
  • Jug/pitcher to contain your infused water.  (my toddler drinks Sunny D and those large containers are perfect, so why not recycle something and re-use rather than throw away?)
  • 3 lemons, (de-seeded and cut into thin slices)
  • 3 limes, (cut into thin slices)
  • 2 oranges (cut into thin slices)
  • Fresh mint leaves (whole, just rinsed)
  • Ginger root, (optional) peeled and cut into thin slices
So now that we have everything we need, it's just time to slice it all up.  It really doesn't matter how you do it - I like to cut mine in thin slices.  For example, when I make Sangria I dice my fruit - but for this, I want more of it in my water.

Again, all a matter of preference on how you slice it - just slice so you can get it all in your container.

And .. as you see here - that's the biggest part of making this: the preparation.  It will depend on how big of a container you are wanting to use to determine how much citrus you want to add.  I do two of each with about a handful of mint leaves.

Place all your citrus in the jug/pitcher you are going to use - then fill with water.  This is best to allow at least 24-48 hours to really infuse nicely so I try and make mine up in advance.  What is nice about using this container is that I can actually take to work with me and sit it in the fridge all day.  The longer you allow it to infuse, the more flavor it will give your water.

And ... that's it.  Seriously.  I told you it was super easy.  Slice and add water.

Enjoy your summer, eat right and you will enjoy it that much more!!

Cheers!
